Where Is Your Energy…

…when things go badly?

Have you ever told yourself “it’s going to be one of those days?” We’ve always had our share of struggles, however, with the ongoing pandemic, it feels like everything is magnified. You come to terms with one situation, and another is thrown at you with little warning or time to integrate.

Which brings me to my question. How do you cope when you feel like your attention is spiraling towards lower energies, such as fear, doubt, or lack?

Today was one of those days for me. It started with one thing not going my way, and pretty soon I hit a brick wall with everything I needed to accomplish. In the grand scheme, everything was small stuff. But practicing how to maintain our energy with the small stuff, makes it easier to get back into equilibrium with the big stuff.

I had a choice. I could continue to put my energy in the status quo (irritation, helplessness, overwhelm), or I could choose to focus on the solution. How do I shift myself from a place of negativity to one of positive emotions? Tapping, of course is a great solution, but today I just didn’t have the time!

I decided instead to use neuro-linguistic programming…i.e., affirmations. Here are a couple that my clients use regularly and get great results from:

  • In big ways and small, things are always working out for me.
  • I’m open to the possibility that there is an excellent solution round the corner
  • Opportunities are all around me and I choose to say YES and get out of my way

The trick with affirmations is that they won’t work if your resistance is high. Here is a test to check your resistance.

Stop and focus on a situation that you are struggling with. Repeat a statement from above that resonates the most with you out loud. How does it feel? If it brought a smile to your face, your resistance is low. If you felt something inside of you recoil, or contract, you know that you have resistance in believing this situation will work out for you.

More damagingly, there is a good possibility that you may be obsessing about all the ways why it WON’T work out, which pushes away any possible solution.
